Barry M. Prizant, Ph.D., has more than 25 years experience as a clinical scholar, researcher and program consultant to young children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and related disabilities and their families. He is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Now for the first time in a video series, Dr. Barry Prizant presents a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to enhance communication and socio-emotional abilities for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other related disorders.

The acronym "SCERTS™" refers to the core components of the model: Social Communication (SC), Emotional Regulation (ER), and Transactional Supports (TS). This multidisciplinary, research-based model was developed by a multidisciplinary team including Barry Prizant, Amy Wetherby, Emily Rubin, Amy Laurent and Patrick Rydell.

This outstanding NEW 2004 video series provides an overview of the SCERTS™ model and demonstrates its application in classroom, community, and home environments for children in early intervention through the primary school grades. The SCERTS™ Model is designed for those interested in moving beyond currently available approaches, to a comprehensive framework that builds meaning, logic and predictability into daily functional activities for children with ASD and all their social partners.

A Resource Handbook is included with videos.

The viewer will be able to:

  • Better understand the characteristics of ASD
  • Recognize the value of social communication and emotional regulation in the education of students with ASD
  • Identify and explain the major components of the SCERTS™ model
  • Understand the application of the SCERTS™ model in the classroom for two distinct populations (students requiring more support and those requiring less support)
  • Participate in this multi-disciplinary approach to educating students with ASD
  • Implement specific teaching strategies based upon the SCERTS™ model
