Grade level: 5-9. What constitutes harassment? How does it make kids feel? What can they do to handle it? What should they do if they witness it? These are the questions that will be answered in this honest and highly effective program. With the encouragement of a school counselor, young teens share their own experiences coping with bullying, taunting and teasing. They view and react to dramatic vignettes that show realistic situations of harassment. Dr. Michael Furlong, professor at UC Santa Barbara, lends expert advice to students about what they can do to handle these difficult situations. Gossip and Rumors! Jealous of Marie's friendly relationship with Evan, Tiffany spreads rumors that Marie is only using Evan to do her social studies project for her. Evan believes the rumor and gets annoyed with Marie. Isabel participates, fueling the gossip mill. Marie finally confronts Evan about his attitude and sets him straight about the rumor. Taunting! Freddy and Norman are shooting hoops. Tyrone and Pratt come along and taunt them about their "ability" with the basketball, and call them derogatory names. They refuse to react the way Pratt expects -- with anger and embarrassment. Instead, they use humor to deflect the taunts, taking the power out of Pratt's taunting. Bullying! Moody and his friend bully Paul repeatedly. Struggling with his anger, embarrassment, and fear, Paul decides he needs to seek the help of his guidance counselor before things escalate.
