In essence, "Improving Classroom Behavior" is a CD-ROM collage of typical student behavior problems teachers encounter in the elementary setting. The ICB content can assist educators and administrators to develop a proactive approach to the most common behavior problems. This proactive approach is established by presenting examples of teaching approaches to problem behaviors, illustrations of effective teaching techniques, and practical examples. The easy to follow visual format of this CD-ROM provides an opportunity to select information on solving student's behavior problems from a variety of selections that include primary and secondary prevention, as well as case studies.

Primary Prevention Techniques
This section seeks to share information that viewers can use to prevent behavior problems from occurring in the first place. The information areas within this section range from inclusionary practices, rule-making, anger management and assertiveness skills, to the teaching of social skills.

Secondary Prevention Techniques
The information in this section instructs on how to prevent problems from escalating. Topics covered include: impulse control, classroom problem-solving and negotiation and peer mediation.

"Improving Classroom Behavior" delivers by providing elementary level educators and administrators with a professional resource that provides knowledge and problem-solving techniques in regards to behavior problems on an individual, classroom and school-wide basis. This CD-ROM would be a valuable addition to the professional resources of all elementary level educators.

The viewer will be able to:

  • Understand strategies for preventing problem behaviors
  • Recognize the need for such strategies to be available to individual students as well as an entire classroom and school
