Author Toby Karten developed this edition of her popular Inclusion Lesson Plan Book for the 21st Century to be used by both instructors and their students in training sessions on inclusion. This includes pre-service training of aspiring teachers by college/university professors, or in-service training of classroom teachers by staff trainers.

Like the original version, Inclusion Lesson Plan Book for the 21st Century, Teacher Training Edition presents vital information, practical tips and useful tools to help teachers design effective lessons that are accessible to diverse students in inclusive classrooms. The teacher training edition, however, is organized for training purposes and includes professional activities to examine inclusion practices.

The Teacher Training Edition also provides an even larger selection of reproducible forms and worksheets than is offered in the original volume, which includes

  • Weekly planning sheets that help ensure lesson plans include appropriate objectives, procedures, interventions, assessments, and accountability/data options.  They also facilitate the selection of co-teaching/collaborative options (e.g., lessons delivered by co-teachers or other staff to the whole class, targeted smaller groups, or individual students).
  • Quarterly planning forms that encourage teachers to proactively preview yearly concepts and lessons each marking period.
  • Intervention forms that allow teachers to record the effectiveness of programs for the whole class, small groups, or individuals.*

Also included are strategies for effective collaboration between general education and special education teachers as they work together to identify research-based interventions for students with learning disabilities (LD) who have Individual Education Programs (IEP). RTI Data Sheets are provided to help teachers document interventions, collect data and monitor student progress.

Other features include

  • Information on classroom management structures
  • Several sample step-by-step instructional strategies/interventions
  • Ideas for creative, thematic-based lessons
  • Recommended curriculum-based assessments.
