Dr. Carrie L. McDermott in an associate professor in the School of Education and Human Services at Molloy University, Rockville Centre, New York with concentrations in culturally responsive -sustaining pedagogies, linguistic diversity, curriculum and program development, ESOL methodology, theory, and language acquisition. Prior to entering the field of teacher education, she was an educator for over twelve years and previously worked in the business industry. Her areas of expertise include teaching English to students of other languages for grades K-12 and adults; elementary, middle, and secondary education; Curriculum Development, Program Development and Restructuring, Co-Teaching, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support; and Teacher Mentoring.
Dr. McDermott works with school district administrators to strengthen and strengthen instructional programming as well as supervise, and evaluate these practices through customizable coaching and mentorship protocols. She is also involved in several research projects involving culturally responsive-sustaining pedagogies, integrated instruction and assessment for ELs, co-teaching practices, and graduate education program impact.
Dr. McDermott Goldman co-authored From Equity Insights to Action: Critical Strategies for Teaching Multilingual Learners. In addition, she has published textbook chapters in Teaching Science to English Language Learners: Preparing Pre-Service and In-Service Teachers and Teaching History and Social Studies to English Language Learners, written articles in the Journal of Leadership and Instruction and IDIOM, as well as presented at various conferences including TESOL International, NYS TESOL, LIESOL, and The Teachers’ Institute. She authored several laminated guides including: Teaching Reading to Multilingual Learners, Teaching English Learners: Strategies for Classroom Teachers, and English Learners: Strategies to Adapt Instruction.
