Historically, research and funding for students with learning disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have been geared toward early childhood and young students in the hope that children are diagnosed early and receive early interventions that will prevent problems in the later grades.  However, some students with LD and/or ADHD are invariably not diagnosed as young children and therefore do not benefit from early intervention. Even those who do receive early intervention usually require-- and are legally entitled to-- individual support and appropriate accommodations and modifications throughout middle and high school and as they prepare for the transition to college.

Adolescents and Adults with Learning Disabilities and ADHD: Assessment and Accommodation addresses these issues and illuminates the significant and distinctive needs of students with learning disabilities and ADHD in the older grades.  Authors Noel Gregg and Donald Deshler address the social, academic and vocational needs of adolescent students in a thorough, integrated manner.  Specific attention is given to how to conduct and administer accurate tests and assessments with appropriate accommodations and modifications.

This comprehensive resource includes:

  • A summary and analysis of the accommodations and services schools must provide for adolescents and adults with diagnosed disabilities, including ADHD and LD
  • Programming recommendations that comport with policy requirements
  • A review of literature in the fields of genetics, neurology, biology, disabilities and education theory
  • Relevant case studies

Adolescents and Adults with Learning Disabilities and ADHD: Assessment and Accommodation will provide educators, researchers and policy makers with the foundational knowledge they need to maximize student learning and create a school environment that promotes academic and social development for students with LD or ADHD.   This very readable book contains numerous examples and practical solutions that can be easily implemented into any learning system.  A handy resource for all middle and high school teachers, guidance counselors, and school psychologists.
