Thomas Armstrong, a psychologist, consultant, and former teacher of children with behavior and learning problems believes that labels such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often create more problems than they solve. Dr. Armstrong feels that the behaviors associated with ADD and ADHD (impulsivity, hyperactivity, and distractibility) result from a wide range of social, psychological, and educational causes, and are not solely due to neurological dysfunction. He believes that in order to effectively tackle the problems associated with these behaviors, we need to have available a wide variety of tools and strategies that can address the deeper needs of children rather than masking symptoms with medication and behavior modification. Dr. Armstrong believes that by working with the positives rather than the negatives, educators can help these children become truly successful in life.

Join Dr. Armstrong and Kaye Mentley, principal of the Huntington Woods Elementary School, Wyoming, MI, along with other professionals who focus on educating students by providing them with nurturing, stimulating, and encouraging interventions that are good for all kids. View programs in action that focus on a "wellness" model of children and learning.

Produced for staff development and training for classroom teachers, this video provides an array of teaching strategies to work with children who are often diagnosed/misdiagnosed as Attention Deficit Disorder.
