Sudents are expected to acquire certain core mathematics knowlege before graduating high school (per the CCSS for Mathematics), including an understanding of numbers (whole number, operations, and relations), as well as geometry, spatial relations, measurement, and algebra. In addition to procedural skill/computational fluency, students must demonstrate mathematical understanding (the ability to explain/justify why a math statement is true or where a math rule comes from). The goal of science education is for students to acquire and apply scientific knowledge to unique situations as well as have the ability to think and reason scientifically. Content areas include physical science, life science, earth and space science. Engineering is increasingly being integrated into science education.
