Meet Our Leadership and Management Team

Robert M. Hanson, EdD

is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of National Professional Resources. Born in rural North Dakota and educated in a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade, Robert recognized the value of education early in his life. After completing high school, he left his small farming community and immersed himself in his formal education, focusing first on general education and then, after discovering his passion for working with students with disabilities, on special education.

After completing undergraduate and graduate work at the University of North Dakota and the University of Nevada, Robert earned his doctorate in education from Syracuse University, where he was recently appointed to the Board of Visitors of the School of Education.  Robert spent 25 years as director of special education at a regional collaborative in the suburban New York area, championing issues of inclusion, equity and access for all students.  Since retiring from this position in 1986, he has expended limitless energy growing National Professional Resources, which he founded and incorporated in 1968, into the successful family-owned and operated small business that it is today.

NPR, Inc. publishes and distributes quality professional materials for educators, administrators, and parents. Robert’s vision for the company—shared by his wife, Helene, and the entire NPR, Inc. team—is to produce high-quality, practical and affordable resources on critical topics in education that empower educators to best serve all students.

Helene Hanson

is vice president of National Professional Resources, as well as Robert’s wife of 40 years and proud grandmother of Allison and R.J.

Like Robert, Helene is a lifelong education professional with extensive experience in and contributions to both special and general education.

Helene earned a graduate degree in speech and language from Teachers College, Columbia University. After several years working with children with hearing impairments, she transitioned to administrative positions at organizations serving students with disabilities. After six years serving as principal of a school for children with severe disabilities, Helene spent ten years as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at a regional collaborative. She has since worked as a consultant in the field of education and held numerous interim positions with New York school districts, which keep her fully immersed in the challenges of today’s classrooms.

Helene retired from the public sector in 1997 and shortly joined National Professional Resources as vice president. A born relationship builder, she is largely responsible for acquisitions and editorial development. She is also the author of several NPR, Inc. publications, including the laminated guides DI: Differentiated Instruction, Enhancing Teaching and Learning, RTI & DI, and RTI & Early Childhood, as well as co-presenter with Lynn Heintzman of the video RTI and DI, The Dynamic Duo
