Executive Function: Skill Building and Support Strategies - New Laminated Guides Now Available

Posted by

Executive function— the broad set of cognitive skills used to organize, self-monitor, control and direct one’s behavior toward purposeful goals— affects learning, behavior, and every aspect of school success. Students with executive function weaknesses— including many of those diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia, and certain other learning disabilities— often struggle with things like memory, attention, time management, self-control, organization and transitions. These problems often present in elementary school, but may not be noticed until middle or high school, as students are given greater independence and responsibilities.

Sandra Rief, author of the best-selling book The ADHD Book of Lists, as well as several laminated guides for NPR, Inc., has written two quick-reference, tri-fold (6 page) laminated reference guides to provide teachers with strategies to promote the development of executive function skills in all students, and to provide scaffolds and accommodations to students with executive function impairments. One guide is targeted to elementary teachers, while the other is designed for teachers of grades 6-12.

These guides are now available for purchase online. For more information and to purchase the elementary guide, visit For the 6-12 version, go to Guides are $12.95 each, with bulk discounts for 11 or more copies.
