Padmaja P. Sarathy

padmaja-sarathy-author2.jpgPadmaja Sarathy is an educational consultant with extensive knowledge and expertise in the fields of special education and early childhood education. As an author of multiple books on special education topics, she speaks and trains at international, national and regional conferences. Her books are a culmination of her deep personal and professional reflection gained from training educators and providing on-site support to them in a variety of settings. She is driven by an intense commitment to empower educators to deliver invigorative instruction to actively engage and enable learners with a diversity of learning and behavioral needs to achieve meaningful outcomes.

In 2013, the second edition of her book on Autism, Positive Behavioral Intervention for Students With Autism: A Practical Guide to Avoiding the Legal Risks of Seclusion and Restraint, was published by LRP Publications. It was followed in 2014 by a completely revised edition of Serving Students with Severe and multiple Disabilities: A Guide to strategies for Successful Learning. The books portray a rich variety of innovative instructional techniques with guidance on positive interventions and presenting easy-to-implement, hands-on strategies and adaptation ideas. Recognizing the increasingly significant role paraeducators play in supporting students with special needs, Padmaja wrote a comprehensive training guide – a DVD with multiple units including a unit on autism – for school districts to train paraeducators. In collaboration with a music therapist, she has also developed a music CD to assist educators to support children with autism spectrum disorders. For NPR, Inc. She is the author of the laminated guide Seven Steps for Supporting Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Recently, Padmaja has founded a nonprofit organization – Parent Engagement for Active Child Enrichment (PEACE). The mission of PEACE is to coach families who are economically disadvantaged and have limited resources to actively engage with their children to prepare them for learning and school success.
